Dr. Aimée Rose was captivated by chemistry while a student at Central High School, continuing its study at St. Michael's College in Vermont where she was graduated summa cum laude. Having been introduced to the world of chemical sensors at Pacific Northwest National Laboratory, she went on to receive a PhD in Physical Chemistry from MIT. Dr. Rose's graduate work focused on energy migration processes in conjugated polymers. She and her colleagues developed a polymer that acts like a laser, is stable in air and is very sensitive to the presence of explosive vapor. Such a breakthrough has had wide-spread applications for homeland security, environmental monitoring, and medical diagnostics. Dr. Rose continues her work in explosives detection at ICx Technologies, the MIT commercialization partner. Her expanded role in product development has led to the design and commercialization of new materials for detection of home made explosives, an emerging threat to national security. The resulting product, Fido PaxPoint, is one of the only technologies deployed by TSA for bottled liquid screening and has improved security for airline passengers nation-wide, beginning with her hometown's Manchester-Boston Regional Airport. For her commitment to her craft and her contributions to global security, the Central Hall of Fame salutes Dr. Aimée Rose.
